Technology Training & Employment Program

Osiris Organization’s Technology Training Program provides computer technology training to youth who participate in the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Park’s Teen Teamworks Program.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s Teen Teamworks is a summer employment and educational program for youth ages 14-24.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s Teen Teamworks selects youth who demonstrate enthusiasm for technology training. These youth will be employed as computer lab assistants/peer mentors in selected computer centers throughout our twenty-nine (29) Osiris Organization constructed computer centers in the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Public Parks.

Osiris’s technical staff provides all the technical training to the youth while employed. Youth receives on hand experience in a computer lab environment. Youth learn these basic computer skill attributes:

  • Hardware: Provide detailed training of basic components (cases, power supplies, fans, motherboards etc)
  • Software: Provide detailed training in Windows Operating System
  • Technical Skills: Provide detailed training in troubleshooting hardware, and software issues in a computer lab environment
  • We discuss IT careers with the youth at the end of the summer program
  • We provide scholarship support for those attending post-secondary institutions

Three years ago, 360 Manufacturing asked Minnesota companies about the competencies of MnSCU manufacturing graduates. The major feedback White’s consortium received was that while graduates had strong technical skills, “they struggled with how to be a productive employee.” In response, 360 Manufacturing has developed “learning modules” available to schools, colleges and businesses that impart soft skills. Those entail career success strategies, such as techniques for working with co-workers.

"The job retentions skills I've learned from participating in the Osiris employment program has helped tremendously. Working in the computer labs and being a mentor to younger youth was the most enjoyable."
