The Summer & After-School Technology Program
Learn, Play & Engage
In an effort to bridge the technology gap between underserved and marginalized elementary and middle school youth and the general population, Osiris Organization has partnered with Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) to provide coding instruction through the Freedom School Express (FSX), Extended Day Learning (EDL) and Flipside summer and afterschool programs. The current school locations are Capitol Hill Magnet Magnet, Hazel Park Preparatory Academy and Humboldt/OWL.
Welcome to the exciting world of coding!
Our coding program is designed to teach the basics of coding in a fun and interactive way. Students will learn how to create their own games, animations, and stories while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
Osiris Organization has been providing coding instruction since the summer of 2023. Our program utilizes Tynker.com, a renowned coding platform designed specifically for young learners that utilize visual coding blocks that make coding easy and intuitive. Students drag and drop blocks to create code that makes characters move, jump, and even talk! Other onliine platforms are used to supplement the Tynker.com curriculum. We integrate Wayground.com (formerly Quizizz.com), an interactive assessment tool that helps monitor and evaluate student progress in real-time, that allows us to immediately engage with student progress.
This initiative aims to provide underserved students with essential technology skills that will prepare them for future educational and career opportunities in STEM fields. They’ll learn about loops, conditionals, and variables without even realizing it. We also provide text based coding instruction for the more advanced student.
Our goal is to expose our Saint Paul youth to the arena of coding and join the millions of kids around the globe who are learning 21st Century technology disciplines and changing the world!
Disinvested Youth Gaming Initiative (DYGI) Presentation
An important component of the Osiris Organization’s Intro To Coding instruction is to periodically expose our students to established businesses that utilize coding in the development of their products or services or provide specialized education and training where some form of coding is used as the foundation of their business.
Founder and CEO Hal Reynolds provided an overview presentation of DYGI to Osiris’ summer Intro To Coding students at Capitol Hill Magnet School. DYGI is transforming the esports landscape into an opportunity for young minds to develop real-world skills in coding, game design, AI, and technology.
